I have been a huge fan of Emily King for the better part of the last 8 years: her debut LP East Side Story had quite a few gems on it, and her 2011 EP Seven was pure perfection.
Her sophomore record The Switch dropped a few weeks ago, and I was smitten at the first listen. Every song is brilliant, but the one song that immediately stuck out to me is “Sleepwalker”.
You can go grab the song (and album) on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon, or stream it on Spotify.
The thing that puts Emily ahead of the rest is her style of storytelling: the lyrics are quite descriptive and impactful, delivered by an airy vocal that makes it easy to digest. I saw her with some friends in 2012, one of whom was in tears for most of the show. It just goes to show the impact artists can have on their audience.
She’s heading on an East Coast tour right now, so go check her out if you’re on that side of the country. To get a taste of her set, check out this clip of “Sleepwalker” live in DC.
