I’ve come to the realization that a lot of songs I liked in the 90s had lyrics that were either incredibly trifling, completely moronic, or both. Nostalgia is usually good for shielding the truth from us, but there’s nothing like a cover song in another genre to knock us out of our blissful ignorance.

They Might Be Giants visited The A.V Club offices for their Undercover series and chose to perform a cover of “Bills, Bills, Bills” by Destiny’s Child.

At the time of its release, I was blinded by my major crush on LeToya Luckett (one of the two replaced by Michelle). Upon hearing this cover, I literally laughed out loud at the absurdity of its lyrics.

Granted, all of the group members were 18 or under when this was released. Still, the lyrics are as trifling as the “brother” they’re singing the song to.

Bravo, good sirs. Bravo.
