I remember a time when Mariah Carey was a brilliant singer/songwriter with pipes of gold and the pen to match. I don’t know what happened after the Butterfly album, but I tend to stick to her early discography.

My favorite song out of her entire catalog? “Vanishing” from her self-titled debut. Not only is it great lyrically, but her vocal performance is nothing short of breathtaking.

Without fail, this song takes me there every time. She sang this record like her life depended on it, and I for one am thankful for it.
